Second episode is here and we’re trying something a little different this time around. This episode was filmed in front of a green screen. See I feel like I can explain things a lot better if I can talk with my hands and have eye contact with the viewer. Anyways you’ll see the results in this episode. This time around we cover the down and dirty PHP code that hooks up all that database stuff from last time to some sort of user interface. Its not pretty, but it is functional. Now also, I just want to say that there are probably a billion different ways to build a login system with PHP/MySQL, and this is just my way. So please hold off on the “That’s Not How You Do It!” emails. Anyways, check out the show and let me know what you think in the comments.

Things mentioned in this episode:

PHP
PHP Sessions
PHP MySQL Functions

Code Files:

All Project Files In A Zip File
index.php
login.php
logout.php
protectedPage.php

Green Screens Are Awesome

I just wanted to let everyone know that. Also, learning Final Cut’s Chroma Key filter without any formal training is definitely not awesome. Anyone who thinks they might be able to help please let me know, because this is going to be awesome if I can get it to work. Peaked your interest? Let me know - jake@thecodecast.org

The first episode is FINALLY here! I know its been a LONG wait, but I think it will have been well-worth it. We’re starting the show off with a multi-part series on building a login system for a website. Now don’t fear, we are going to cover absolutely every type of programming language on TheCodeCast. I just thought this web-based PHP stuff was a good place to start out.

All Your Code Are Now Belong To Us

Welcome to The CodeCast! This first post will likely serve as a test for all the CSS coding and PHP junk that will probably be going on for at least the first month or so. For the curious minds out there, The CodeCast will be a weekly IPTV show (AKA vidcast, videocast, videoblog, screencast, Asynchronous what ya mah doo hickey 2.0, etc.) about programming and development. We will be covering all topics and programming languages. Episodes will include everything from simple tutorials and software reviews/walkthroughs all the way to complex algorithm analysis and dissection. All tutorials and discussing will be assigned a difficulty rating (Likely on a scale of 1 to 5 cups of coffee) that way viewers can decide if the tutorial is appropriate for them or not. Any and all updates will be posted here as well as links to download the first episode we should be ready VERY soon. Thanks and keep those codin’ fingers stretched, here we go-
